The latest book from Norman Friedman has the usual very detailed design history for British aircraft carriers from WW1 through WW2. Has lots of good photos and plans. Could have used more copy editing to remove repetitive statements. One fact I found particularly interesting was that during the design of the Illustrious class, they worried about keeping within treaty limits, but tried hard to not disclose that they were building carriers with armoured decks.
