Paul updated us on the condition of our member Tom Vargas. After several foot surgeries and other complications, Tom is currently in a rehabilitation facility. We all wish him well for a speedy recovery.
Kassel is coming up soon on May 16. From our group, only Kevin Stewart will make the long trip this year.
The next East Coast meeting is planned for the weekend of September 26/27. Daniel Baker of waterlineships.com is organizing this event. There is a planned get together on Friday evening at the house of 1250 ship collector John Williams in Fairfax Station, VA. On Saturday, the collectors meeting will be in Arlington VA parks and rec facility. Please check Daniels website for more details.
Paul and Kevin updated us on their latest model builds from SS models on eBay. These models are very finely detailed and also reasonably priced. It seems that some of these models are being printed in the US based on very fast deliveries.
Paul and Kevin are also very enthusiastic about the newest models from Brown Water Navy, very detailed and accurate.
Harold Andrews recently had contact with Ryan Szimanski. Ryan is the curator at the battleship New Jersey. Ryan has very actively visited many of the museum ships across the country. He produces You Tube videos about his various adventures. Ryan might be interested in giving a presentation at the East Coast meeting in September.
After the East Coast meeting last October in Mystic, Kevin visited the USS Massachusetts. She looks somewhat decrepit from the outside, but the inside is very well preserved and has many options for exploring. Kevin was especially impressed with climbing into one of her gun turrets-not easy to access, but well worth the effort to get inside.
For future meetings, we will explore a few libraries for possible meeting rooms: Paul in Saratoga, Jim Buckley in San Leandro and myself in Fremont.
For our next meeting, we have planned October 17, 2026. Place to be announced.
