Yes, the Battle of Valcour Island, 11 Oct 1776 on Lake Champlain. A tactical defeat for Benedict Arnold leading the American forces, but a strategic success, delaying the British enough in their advance on Albany for them to return to Canada and wait until 1777 to try again, and ultimately being defeated at Saratoga.

The gondola Philadelphia was sunk, but her remains were discovered and raised in 1935 and she now is on display at the National Museum of American History in Washington DC. The row galley Washington escaped, but was captured a few days later and used by the British in 1777. Sloop HMS Inflexible was the first of her name - last week's puzzle featured the fourth.
