On a beautiful California sunshine day, we met yesterday at Tom's house in Fremont. There were 15 of us this time. And this time 4 of our wives held their own separate meeting.
Tom had prepared a very nice lunch spread for us. And as has become customary, some of us also contribute food and drinks.
We had a "new" visitor this time: Len Fricke. Len is a collector of 1:700 models. Many years ago he obtained a collection of about 60 Wiking-Triang-Alnavco-Eagle & Pyro plastic models. Quite a few of them found a new home in our group.
Tyler Devine, tentwenty3D.com, had brought a table full of 3D printed models, plus he delivered quite a few of our preorders. Currently, Tyler is leasing his production and sales space on the second floor of the Roseville train station. The space on the first floor has become available. Tyler is considering to lease this area as well and then expand his 3D production into railroads. Given that he is located in the train station of a very popular rail yard, this makes sense. Good luck, Tyler.
In addition to our usual for sale items, Tom had put his extensive diorama collection out on display. It is amazing.
During the formal part of our meeting, I updated the group of 2 upcoming events in Germany:
1. May 15, 2025, there will be a 1250 collector meeting in Dortmund. All sales tables for this meeting have been booked. The plan is to hold the Dortmund meeting every other year in between the Kassel years.
2. Kassel 2026 has been fixed to May 16, 2026. It will be at the Philipp Scheideman Haus, as before. But the lodging and Friday night dinner has been moved to the Hotel La Strada in Kassel.
For the fall of 2026, Peter Gottschalk is planning to organize our first SMSC meeting since the pandemic. He is planning this for the beautiful Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. The SMSC event will be combined with an event at Mystic Seaport. As soon as the date has been fixed, we will let you know.
Our San Jose chapter will organize another Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend exhibit at the Oak Hill Cemetery. They have been requested to display their Pearl Harbor Diorama, again
Our next meeting is planned for Saturday, June 28, at Tyler's place in the train station of Roseville.
