In 2002 Galerie Maritim was my introduction to this hobby and to the small scale ship. My job brought me to work in Hamburg for a couple of weeks. I bought a modern German Frigate, it was one of the cheapest model ship there. I did not have enough money to go for any WWII ships, but dam ! I sure wanted to have the Enterprise CVN65.
After my work was finish, when going back home to America, I was being put aside at the Frankfurt hub for security reasons, because no one seem to ever have seen a metal miniature ship before, it was showing on their scanners, and they mostly when into panic mode, it was not a very enjoyable experience back then. Took them an hour to decide if this tiny pewter ship was dangerous or not after all.
Unfortunately I did not have the occasion to return to Hamburg after 2002, Galerie Maritim was (is) a very nice store.

Thanks for sharing, Rick!
This was on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 (IIRC), the year Harald led many of us on a memorable trip through Germany. Seems like a long time ago!
Bernd was a walking encyclopedia of the hobby and an institution in his own right. Not many of them are left now.
