Thank you Rick and Doug; I guess answer is that Italian Navy did not have recognition models in WW II, but it would seem they certainly could have need of them, since their warships had red/white stripes painted on the forward decks so their aviators did not bomb their own ships. Presumably their ships had been bombed by mistake by Italian planes already.
