After a number of emails I need to clarify a few things. The home page has created confusion and apologies for that. Some people are under the impression that the sales of 3D files is our new business plan. This is not the case. We are going back to our roots and producing large scale models, the Tornado being the first. The Prima and Lions were trial models to see what sort of volume sales we would get. We had plenty of interest but overall sales were disappointing and along with other factors we decided to step away from 1/1250 scale production.
With over 40+ years of model manufacturing we have an extensive amount of reference material, 9TB to be precise. It would be a waste not to use it so we decided to make it available to everyone in the form of 3D printable files. There are no restrictions as to the use of the file so they can be used for personal or commercial use. I have no problems with that.
I know that this may not go down well with 1/1250 scale collectors but there are advantages. The file is an instant download and there are no shipping, customs or tax charges. 3D printers are now common place and there will be someone local who could print the model at a reasonable price, a quick look online and you will be able to find a wargame painter for instance who can finish the model and they don’t charge a fortune, collectors should be able to get a finished model with a custom finish rather than getting a generic version from us, and my research tells me it will also be a cheaper option in most cases.
I could have simply not bothered to make the files available and moved on, the files would simply sit on a hard drive until deleted. This way someone may be able to make use of them, either now or in the future.
I have started to upload files to our online shop where they can be purchased for a nominal/small fee. New files will be added weekly and expect to continue for years to come.
