This is a belated reply, as I was in the process of packing and then moving my entire collection of over 1200 1250 scale models and 80+ 1:500 USN teacher recognition models. I had asked the same question, and could not find 3M double-sided carpet tape anywhere in Columbia, MO. I found and used a double-sided tape called "Alien". It is handy to use in that as one peels it off a roll the second surface is covered by a non-stick plastic coating that peels off after you have affixed the bottom with the adhesive to the box. Then one can stick the ships on it. It holds the ships very firmly; I'm a little concerned about getting them off because of how well it holds them but I have not yet tried unpacking as all of the display cases and bookcases are in the at-present unfinished basement of our new house in Colorado, awaiting a construction project to finish the basement. Still, I found it very handy to pack and move all those ships.
As for Rick or David mentioning using styrofoam blocks in pizza boxed, I did something similar in packing some of the 1:500 scale USN teacher models as I needed to layer them in two tiers, in a big plastic bin and in a large cardboard box. Keeping the layers separate and protected from the top required some engineering and styrofoam blocks and thick memory foam blocks were both very helpful.

Hello everyone,
I am seeking information on where to purchase the double-sided packing tape used to secure models to the packing boxes.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards from Florida,
Andy
