Thanks to all who came over for the meet! It was good to see everyone again after the long COVID break. Some (Bill, Eric, George) traveled
considerable distances, a much appreciated effort!
A minor correction to George's post: in case anyone's wondering what the Northeast Miniature Models Association is, we're still the Northeast Chapter of SMSC , the Society of Miniature Ship Collectors, which has been around since 2008 and has sponsored numerous meetings such as this until COVID put a stop to them in 2018. Already, the West Coast Chapter has resumed their meetings thanks to the efforts of Harald, Paul, Tom and others, and has scheduled their next gathering for June 10.
For our part, we in the Northeast plan to have at least two regular meetings each year, one in April and the other in October. More will be scheduled depending on other members' interest in hosting and/or attending. Now that things are up and running again, look for announcements of these meetings on this board.
Including John, we had nine collectors at the meeting this Sunday, and a busy session of trades and sales was conducted. I took several pictures of John's 8,000+ ship models, which must be seen to be believed, and I want to thank John and his wife, Jenny, for their excellent hospitality. John's house is more of an art gallery than a conventional home, with ceilings that extend 16' in the main section. The facility John has built on the ground floor is uniquely organized, and in a few days, I will post pictures. I have forgotten how, but it might come back to me. My memory is failing, but what a great time! I have never seen a collection that is this detailed and well-worked, with camouflage and/or elaborate painting plus unique details added to nearly all models. This is like nirvana for model ship collectors and is an extraordinary visual soup. Please be patient while I try to figure out how to post pictures, which I used to do very quickly. If you get a chance, please see this collection in person. It is worth a trip of thousands of miles.
George
