I don't collect Superiors any more, but have had the same experience with the Neptun Porter...there are at least three versions out there each with a different AA fit. Ain't it grand!! :-)
My first little ship purchase was when I was a 5th grader. After seeing an ad in "Boys Life" magazine for Alnavco I wrote and got a catalog. I loved their old catalogs... as a kid with no reference materials, their catalogs often listed ships in a class represented by a particular model. And there it was... under the Somers class US DD was the USS Davis! I had to have one, and scraped together the $2.95 plus postage, mailed it off, and anxiously awaited the result. IN about 10 days a small padded yellow envelope arrived with my ship inside. Then somewhere over the years, across many moves and collection sell-offs to raise money, she was gone. Well, last week I found a used one listed at 1250 ships and bought it. It arrived and I unpackaged it, only to discover that it was *not* the same model as I had before... It still had the "Somers Class DD" ID engraved along the side, and the weapons fit was the same as my original model, but this model lacked the lifeboat abreast the stack on the starboard side, and the 5" turrets and barrels were much more to scale than on the model of my youth... Anyone know how many iterations of the Somers ID model there might have been floating around? I'm not at all unhappy with the model, just curious....
