colour scheme on the few photos i have seen appears to be mostly black with white bulwarks on the "main deck" , boats white or very light grey, as for funnels black top and ??? probably buff but on some photos could just as easily be red??? as so few of the photos are dated or marked as more than the ships name at some point in her history!! some books mention funnel and flag colours but none of mine do so for RVF!
Most recently from Wikipedia, with more detail in a website called Norwayheritage. The latter website shows photos of Augusta Victoria before and after, and it appears that the hull was lengthened between the bridge and the first funnel during 1896-97. I also think the project would be daunting.
On the positive side, Augusta Victoria’s sister ship, SS Columbia, was NOT lengthened, and saw similar employment as the Russian auxiliary cruiser Terek.
If you find information on the paint scheme, please share it. Thanks.
Hello Bob, where did you read that the Kuban was lengthened by 61'. I would not attempt to add this much to a model.
This is a great information. I acquired a 1/1250 model of Augusta Victoria some years ago for conversion, but put it aside when I read that the vessel was lengthened by 61’ and the middle mast removed, prior to war service. Both the models I found on Sammelhafen appear to have the original configuration of 3 masts. Assuming this is the case, is it worth surgery on a model to add 5/8” to the middle of the hull? Anyone try this already?
In 1904, Germany sold the fast liner Augusta Victoria to Russia. She was renamed to Kuban and became an auxiliary cruiser.
My question: what guns were added to her? How many? And where?
