I was asked by Ralph Morton if I could help him create a model of HMS Vanguard as she may have appeared if she was converted to a missile carrying battleship . It aims to show Vanguard as she might have looked in 1962 on her maiden deployment with the NATO Striking Fleet in the North Atlantic during the Cuban Missile crisis..
This is a joint project and Ralph designed it step by step as I converted a Skytrex model around his ideas. Sometines bouncing ideas back and forth, sometimes building parts only to reject them for someting closer to the world of functional practicalities instead of projected fantasy.
Lots of converting ,
Building new platforms around the secondaries
Replacing the secondaries
Scratchbuilding a Pegasus2 atomic missile
Removing rear turrets and replacing with Seaslug mounts and loading housing.
Replacing rear mast and adding double bedstead
Scratchbuilding foremast and adding flying pennants
Along with quite a few other additions
.
Painted using a mixture of acrylics and enamels , also using various tinted wash techniques and various tinted dry brush ..
She was then weathered in scale ..
I also have to give special thanks to Dave Willcocks at Dreadnought models for supplying everything to help create this model, the helicopters and for giving his time to help with ideas and options ...
One of my favourite projects I have ever had the pleasure of working on,thank you Ralph and Dave ..🤗
