Continuing to work my way through "British Destroyers" by Edgar March. There are a number of references to "shale oil" apparently as the fuel for torpedoes. Since this was written in the 1950s, I assume it is not referring to today's shale oil, as produced from geological formations of shale, but probably to some particular grade of oil in the 1930s. Can anyone elaborate on this?
