Re: Strange Neptun O/P class destroyer
Yeah, I had a rogue USS San Juan bought through an ad in Warship International. I still remember the mailing address (amazing the kind of crap we sometimes remember): Schneewittchen Strasse 20A, Munchen.
Sold it to the guy (Bill...????) who owned a mail-order all-things-ship-models business. I can't remember the name now... I think he was out of Washington State. Wish I hadn't let it go.
As some of you know, I have a radar picket Gearing that was made by this rogue maker; it was factory fresh and never appeared on any list. Also, I wrote about the fact that all four variants of 1162 were made by Neptun and not advertised as such...but this was not one of them...so I think Paul's conjecture is reasonable.
During the early 1980s, a rogue Neptun employee cast slightly modified models and sold them surreptiously. Although I never saw this one on any list, it is possible that this is one. If so, it's the first of this one I have seen.
1) It was made that way,
2) The painting is original from Neptun,
3) 4 inch mounts are Neptun original,
4) Does not appear to have been modified by a collector,
5) The logo number is N 1162.
