Re: 35th Northern California Ship Collectors Meeting July 24,2021
Here are the photos from our meeting. Towards the upper left, click on "all images" and then on "35th Northern California Ship Collector Meeting"
The photos are in random order. Imgur does not let me organize them.
I encourage all our participants to add comments to the photos.
Did anyone happen to make photos? Either way, thanks for the detailed report!
On Saturday, July 24, 2021, we met under the beautiful Saratoga sun at Paul Jacobs house. This was our first post Covid meeting, everyone attending was vaccinated and therefore no need to wear masks.
Based on the Evite responses, we were expecting 17 participants. However, none of the 4 Sacramento area respondents attended, 2 unfortunately for health reasons.
Our friend Bill Laferrier could not attend due to the recent passing of his long time companion Willy Fogg. Some of you that have attended an SMSC meeting might remember Willy. She also was a participant of our SMSC trip to Hawaii. Her friendly demeanor will be missed by all of us.
We had 4 new members attending: James Buckley, Jeff Williams, Joe Shoppe and his son. I will forward their information to Ulrich to add to our SMSC roster.
Paul had told us that he would BBQ hamburgers for us, which he did on "The Admirals Backyard BBQ". they were delicious. All our participants had brought additional food items so that we wound up with more food than we could eat.
Phil Woodruff gave us an update on the "Spirit of '45" event. It is planned for August 14 at Kelley Park in San Jose. Since our San Jose chapter has all the tables and tents needed, the rent for the space will be $50. The hat was passed and the money collected.
I updated everyone about the dates for Kassel and the Hamburg meeting next year. So far it looks like I will be the only one attending Kassel from our group.
We discussed the possibility of another national SMSC meeting in the future. We had to cancel San Diego last year because of Covid. However, the response for attendance was disappointing. Therefore, we are not sure at this point about another national meeting.
But the Northern California meetings will continue. We are planning to meet at Tom Vargas's house on November 6, 2021. Please mark your calendars.
