I came away with a couple of insignia pins, one of which, of BOUVET's coat of arms, I still have, pinned to a hat that I wear a lot, so today I was again reminded of this long ago memory.
The French built 18 of these elegant looking ships, worthy successors to the powerful and beautiful contre-torpilleurs of the 1930s and '40s, many of which were lost during the war.
In the late 1950's Hansa made a model of the class name ship SURCOUF, but the model shown below is the BOUVET by Quadrant. Alain Picouet produced somewhere between 8-12 different models of the class; I have eight and I'm not sure exactly how many others may have been made. They are still the very best models of these ships in 1250 scale that have been made. As they were produced in limited numbers, they are now very hard to find.
Do you have a model of a ship that brings back fond memories of your youth? If so, tell us about it.
