Re: Gloucester Castle livery
allowed lavender as near Mountbatten Pink??
Does anyone know what livery Gloucester Castle was in when she was sunk by Michel in 1942? I have had a Navis model waiting for two years to be repainted from Union Castle livery but I have been unable to find any information on this issue. So far my research shows that the British Ministry of War Transport insisted that indemnity for war losses would be restricted to grey-painted ships from late spring 1942 onwards but their must have been some leeway to allow for ships not having sufficient supplies on board and Gloucester Castle left Liverpool in early June. Prior to the edict, many ships travelling to the southern hemisphere might have had black hulls, darkened upper-works (buff or grey) and funnels black or grey so that they could have been mistaken for neutral shipping until Japan entered the war. I am confident that she would not be carrying lavender hull and red funnel.
