a few years ago i won on eBay a fleet of 30 ships cheap because of location and collect only, they traveled over 250 miles including some rough roads, cobbled streets in Edinburgh, and high speed motorways, they sat loose and unmoving except one destroyer capsized with no damage, they were just sitting in a shallow box with a towel to fill the box to hold them in place, no lid. after this when we moved house 60 miles the entire collection traveled loose on the normal trays in cabinets, the resin models tended to move a lot more than the metal and the bigger the less they moved- perhaps i was lucky, i would recommend putting any you can into boxes!

Pizza boxes, carpet tape, and a Styrofoam center post to keep the tops from collapsing. I stacked them up in the back of my Passat station wagon, strapped them down and moved them from NYC to Delmar (150 mi) and the to College Station, PA (350 mi) without a problem. I got the Pizza boxes for free 😊
PS: I think George warmed the bottom of the boxes to get them off the tape.
