I will third the Haarr book but I would also call your attention to the war in the Baltic which saw a lot of naval engagements that were overshadowed by the events in the Atlantic but still played an important role in the war's outcome. "The Naval War in the Baltic 1939-1945" by Poul Grooss. Well written well documented and for collectors a handy Index of Ship Names mentioned in the book makes for easy reference. Probably a great source of history quizzes as well.
...the two additional volumes are excellent...most thorough coverage of the campaign I have seen.
Yes, an excellent book. He also did two other volumes, “The Gathering Storm” which covers the naval war from the start of the war up to the invasion of Norway, and “The Battle for Norway” which covers the period after “Invasion.”
Just finished "The German Invasion of Norway" by Geirr H Haarr - published by the Naval Institute Press. An extremely thorough but lively telling the of the naval part of the German invasion, equally from the German, Norwegian, and British participation. Highly recommended.
