Re: Greyhound trailer
The film appears to be based on C.S. Forester's The Good Shepherd. The US DD in question in the book is a Mahan class...USS Keeling and her TBS call sign was "George." Not sexy enough for Hollywood, I guess. And there were no women in the movie at all. I will probably grit my teeth and see it when it comes out but it certainly does not seem to bear much resemblance to a very good war novel. We shall just have to see.
No way in 1942 would the USN send their big, powerful, brand-new, 5 gun, 10 TTs and large AA outfit FLETCHERs to fight U-boats when they were needed in the Pacific. Like the RN, they deployed smaller, older ships designed as, or converted into submarine hunter/killers.
Dear Mr. Spielberg - if you want epic heroism, please make a film about Operation Pedestal.
Itís the radar on the twin 40mm mount that caught me eye...
square front Fletcher had to be so as they used a preserved ship for some scenes , but 30 atlantic convos in 1942??? that makes a 60+ week year!
Anyone else see the Greyhound trailer yet? Iím hopeful that itíll be worth seeing, but I already spotted one ďwinceĒ wrt the US DD fit...
Anyone else notice it?
