I wonder why the film-makers chose to portray Lutjens as a rabid Nazi - which he wasn't - whereas in the 'Battle of the River Plate', made four years earlier, Captain Langsdorff was portrayed more sympathetically? Mind you, I read somewhere that, in making the latter film, the US Navy, who had loaned the USS Salem to be the Graf Spee, wouldn't allow their sailors to wear coal-scuttle helmets for authenticity!
