I mentioned in a previous post about the passing of Wayne Moyer. For the record, here is some more information about his Company:
It indeed was called 1200 Ships
#1 Was the USS Olympia in white. Manila Bay gray was also available as a special order. I believe Wayne originated this model and mold.
#'s 2 through 9 were copies of South Salem Ships cast in resin.
#10 was the Peking Maru but South Salem was not mentioned in conjunction with this model. Of course the South Salem's did not carry names, and were only referred to by type. This model probably was a South Salem copy as well.
#'s 11, 13 and 14 were South Salem Copies.
#12 Unknown
#15 Was the USS Medusa based on a Bessarabis model but enhanced by Wayne for the completed models. Unpainted were supposedly just copies of the Bessarabis model.
#16 and 17 were South Salem Copies
#18 Edmund Fitzgerald. Per Wayne, "This model is 1/1250 scale and is based on the long out-of-production white-metal Gerard Model." Wayne did some minor cleanup and thinned the bulwarks of the Gerard model for his (resin) castings of the "Fitz".
There you have it. I do have a list from Wayne that describes the above and their pricing. He also attributes names to some of the South Salem Models he copied. I know that Fred Dorris among others disagreed with the naming since South Salem never assigned them. Your call.
That's it! You now know pretty much what I know except for the pricing and naming details. The above information was from a 2005 price list of Wayne's. I purchased a few from him in 2008 and by then the molds were deteriorating badly. I hope this information is of some use to you!
