Re: Digital Navy 1/1250 scale 3D printed ships
Very interesting! What adhesive do you recommend for assembly? Also are any instructions regarding the rigging or size of brass wire, for instance, available?
I have this Kongo supplied via Shapeways. It's very detailed but suffers from 'chunky gun' syndrome. It is all a single print - the main turrets were joined by a think link to the underside of the hull. So far I have chickened out of chiselling off the 'solid' gun barrels, but I think I can't leave the model like this.
Digital navy now has a Shapeways store and is selling 1/1200 and 1/1250 scale 3D printed ships. So far the ships offered are the Battlecruiser Invincible, the Pre-dreadnought battleship Canopus and the Battleship Viribus Unitis. These are not your usual toy-like Shapeways offerings - I have purchased Invincible and Canopus and the detail level is incredble. They are much more detailed than Navis/Neptun and even better than Spider Navy.
The caveat is that these are kits, not completed ships and small details (masts, cranes, gun barrels) have to be sourced or scratch built from brass. The parts fit very well together but are extremely delicate. However the end result should be amazing.
