Re: Montana and Akagi -ATTN David Alcock
the ones i have were from MB, in the JY series.
thanks for the offer but i did complete them using various bits from a couple of plastic kits,Yamato and Hood if my memory if switched on correctly this morning!
If memory serves, Martin Brown produced these kits for John. Apparently, the mold for the white metal parts shot craps before the mold for the hull. He cannibalized parts from a number of kits to make complete kits, and then sold the rest as incompletes on his website and on ebay. That is how I got my final 2 of the Akagi class. I disassembled one of my copies, and made a mold of all the parts and cast them for the two "partials" out of resin. More work than it was probably worth, but it was better than the J201.
David Alcock - I still may have some of those parts molds. They were before my improved techniques, so there tended to be a lot of flash to remove, and they were cast with flat bottoms, so no placement pegs. I threw away a lot of my old molds about 5 years ago so they may be gone. I'll look this weekend to see. If I find them I'll post to you on this page.
THE AMAGI was produced and i have a couple of "partial"kits, one hull only the other with a couple of bits missing!
I think John also made the IJN Akagi/Amagi as a BC (battlecruiser) model too. It was a resin model from MB also. The only other model available of that never-was at the time was the J201 from Superior.
