of John's Montana model, and I wish the hell I had kept one. I liked it better than the Optatus version. So the models are out there, albeit another production run might be in order.

Actually there was a mass produced Youngerman MONTANA in the YSM series as YSM 04.
I believe it represents the ship as it probably would have completed with upgraded AA while the Optatus was based on the original design.
My recollection was that most YSM series were produced for John by Mountford and that the Montana was a resin casting.

Well yes and no. Some of John’s models have been mass produced by Hai. But in the case of MONTANA, how many of us had access to this? One? Two? It wasn’t mass produced, so virtually “none of us” had access to it. However, MONTANA was mass produced by Optatus and Superior. So the masses had access to one. Previous Message

I would add, with his 'never-were' ships such as Montana , John creates a 3-D visual reference none of us would have access to otherwise. Previous Message
What has not been mentioned is that John's models have guns and masts that are much truer to scale than cast models.
Also, some of us prefer to collect a range of models of the same ship, to compare the succes of different processes and skills in producing an accurate model.
