Re: Simulating the sea with my collection on top of it
Foam board from Hobby Lobby. It comes in large sheets but you can easily cut it to the size you want, with an Xacto knife or utility knife. Then a trip to Lowe's or Ace Hardware to find the paint color you are comfortable with, and spray. Ought to be no less than ten bucks, nor more than fifteen.
You won't get any wave action, strictly calm sea, and don't use this for anything larger than 1/1200/50, but at that scale it makes a very decent presentation.
I'm trying to simulate deeper blue ocean water on a budget, and without artistic skill on my part.
I'm generally thinking of blue tinted glass, hopefully with a wavy texture on one side.
Or merely a blue glassed mirror or simple blue glass with a mirror beneath it.
Can you suggest sources? I've been to my local glass retailer, who checked with their wholesaler, who wanted $300.00 for a 36"x36" piece of blue rippled glass.
Thanks for any suggestions!
