Re: Simulating the sea with my collection on top of it
If you have no serious artistic skills it would be best to forget about painting a realistic seascape. You might be able to find plastic sheeting with tints or ripple effects at a hardware store - the option of glass looks expensive.
I gave up trying to find a realistic 'sea' base and settled for a simple dark blue emulsion painted finish on hardboard. I think it looks fine and it's not something which detracts from the appearance of the models displayed - as would a poorly painted 'sea'. Alternatively you could get thin coloured card from an art shop or office outlet and try that as a cheaper alternative to paint.
I'm trying to simulate deeper blue ocean water on a budget, and without artistic skill on my part.
I'm generally thinking of blue tinted glass, hopefully with a wavy texture on one side.
Or merely a blue glassed mirror or simple blue glass with a mirror beneath it.
Can you suggest sources? I've been to my local glass retailer, who checked with their wholesaler, who wanted $300.00 for a 36"x36" piece of blue rippled glass.
Thanks for any suggestions!
