I had one in my lab, too. In the 1950s I had a unique one built by the U of Chicago machine shop as a tissue grinder, it even had sound-proof box made from ceiling tiles.....
I us an ultrasonic bath in my lab at work. The combo of that and a mild cleaner like pine-sol or Simple Green works like a charm.
I have heard that someone used a sonic oscillator-waterbath as is used for jewelry and surgical instrument cleaning. 😊 Also, I would not recommend oven cleaner or steam 😊
DANGER: Test a small spot first. Some paint removers dissolve glue joints and plastic and small pieces can get damaged or lost.
