Interesting you would mention deer. We also have them here. Our pasture has five foot high fence around three sides of about half of it. The rest is four foot and split rail (and a section of just plain ratty stuff). The deer can get inside the five foot high part and then have a tough time finding their way out. Happened just last week. The zebras watch them but otherwise don't get too excited. I suppose they have seen them on the outside of the pasture so much that they have come to accept them as not too scary.
