Animal Planet re-ran their documentary this a.m. with this info on differences between these breeds. The Plains females stay together in a herd with one stallion to protect them. Whereas, the Grevy females lead basic independent lives wandering in and out of companionships. Stallions set up and patrol territories, and attempt to mate with females passing through their territory. They lead v-e-r-y lonesome lives.
Their biggest problem is access to water as lactating females need to drink daily, whereas non-nursing ones can go 2-3 days, plus competition with increasing herds of domestic cattle for food.
