He already had a great start when we started working with him. Aparently, he had been ridden, then sat in the pasture for 3 years. The saddle is a standard QH bars. He had a few small issues that we are working on, such as flinching when you mount (not bad, just a little nervous). I am also advancing his work with bending, turns on hindquarters and forehand and yeilding. I tried out a new bit today for him, just to see how he did. It is a D-ring style snaffle. He seems to respond to flexing easier with it because the flat bar pulls on the opposite side of his chin/mouth, making it easier to understand. It has a very low port, almost like a mullen and a barrel mouthpeice and several attatchment options where you can use it as a standard snaffle or use several different low leverage settings. I don't have a mullen mouth D-ring right now, I think that would suit him well. The O-ring tends to slip into his mouth if he opens it. On the other hand, he doesn't seem to open his mouth much with the D.
