I found one site that said there are probably less than 6000. Another site says the number is estimated to be between 1900 and 2500. Big difference! Of course, one of them said they live 20-30 years while the other one said they might live 20 years, less in the wild. I suspect that in too many cases people guess at information that is not readily available.
