Hold on a second...When I referred to having to sedate a zebra to do routine vet care, it was NOT strictly because of the sedation itself, but rather the manner in which it is done. I agree some horses need to be sedated at times, but they are not darted with the potential of hurting themselves while waiting for the drug to take effect. Additionally, there are some tranquelizers that do NOT work on zebras, some cause bad side effects, while others do work quite well. If a vet has not had prior experience and is not savy, undesireable consequences can and have resulted, including death.
