The book also stated that "Zebras get meaner as they get older." Now, I know that Joyce felt that her mare's instinctive reactions got stronger as she got older, which is a more scientific way of saying something similar. I would have hoped that a book dedicated to scientific discussion would have framed broad statements in a like manner. To say that an animal is aggressive tells me more than to tell that an animal is "mean". That seems to be an anthropomorphic statement. And we all know that anectotical evidence can be flawed, and shouldn't be treated the same way as fact. But we are very fond of it, aren't we?
