It will definitely be interesting to see what answers you get. My cousin who spent 25 or so years with the Ft. Worth zoo has also agreed with the statement about zebras injuring more personal than most other animals do. As I recall, they create the second most injuries in a zoo. But the "bite and don't let go" myth has to be just hysteria.
I did read somewhere just a few days ago the explanation someone had for the extra injuries. They said people are careful with lions, tigers, apes, etc., but zebras are just a small striped horse, so what damage could they possibly do? With that attitude, they often quickly get their answer.
