Charlie does generally tend to like people and is pretty comfortable around them. In his training, he tends to react more like a donkey to most things. Once he learns somthing or figures out that something is OK, thats just the way it is and he usually doesn't question it. He liked Tom right away, but nearly everyone does. I used to drive my big donkey at home with a mullen mouth, Tom said that most donkeys do better with it and guessed that Charlie's mouth was conformed more like a donkey's than a horse's. Exactly what the difference is I am not sure. At the end of the lesson, Tom asked me to drive Charlie to the barn. He walked confidently around the facility right up to the barn. I was a little unsure of how he would react driving him right into the barn, but we gave it a go. He hesitated, but with some encouragement, he walked right in. It was great because there were horses in the stalls along both sides of the isle and they had their heads hanging out of the stalls to check him out but he didn't flinch. I send in a request to Tom asking if I could bring Charlie to the driving show on the 11th. I already have my horse registered, but I would like to take Charlie instead. The other carriage horses didn't seem to mind him. If there is any question when I get there of it being safe, I will just put him up and volunteer at the show instead. I hope it works out, I think he is ready!
