Yesterday, I took Charlie to Haven Hill, home of the Good Hands Training for a driving Lesson. There were many new things to see, many new horses including ponies, draft horses, mules and donkeys. Several dogs running around, lots of people and carriage horses coming and going. Charlie remained very calm and relaxed the entire time. The instructor, Tom O'Carroll, was very impressed by how willing and relaxed he was. He even said that if I entered him in a dressage competition with my horse today, that Charlie would win. That is mostly because my horse is gaited and can't trot to save his life, but still...pretty good compliment!
One of the biggest things that we did was change bits. I was using a half-cheek broken mouth snaffle, we changed to a half cheek mullen mouth snaffle. There was an immediate difference, he was much softer and did not mouth the bit as much, nor did he put his tongue above the bit. All in all, it was a great lesson, here is the link to the video, let me know what you think!
