Loren, I can testify that these methods do work. In fact it has been the only thing that has worked for me. However, if I were to try to get "inside" my zebra's head I would interpret what he is thinking differently. He decided long ago that I wasn't a predator and wasn't going to eat him. But was I strong enough to boss him around? If I wasn't, then I wasn't strong enough to protect him and wasn't worthy of being followed. That left him without a herd leader and was anxiety producing. Encouraging all sorts of unwanted behavior. Watching how my very alpha horse dealt with him helped me sort through this. And our visit from Jason and Sammi Jo confirmed it. But whatever the reason, it does work.
