I think it will be difficult for someone who hasn't seen Sammi Jo and Jason in action to appreciate how skilled they really are. She makes it sound easy because for her it is. If "zebra speak" is a language, then it's their native tongue. For me, it is second language at best and my vocabulary is limited. And sometimes, I just get it wrong. If I get an inconsistant response, it is mostly likely that I was inconsistant. I work on this stuff everyday and have no plans to quit.
I see lots of instances where skilled people have taken grown, untrained (or "wild in a woulden box" like the Thunderguy said) zebras and done a lot with them. Could I do it? Or be gutsy enough in my advanced years to try? Of course I opt for the hand raised baby. That makes it seem doable and more possible. But I think that is an illusion. There are still a host of obstacles to overcome and just as much danger to be exposed to. And don't discount the possibility of zebras that are innately difficult. Without the thousand of years of domestic breeding, having "a trainability factor" is no sure thing.
Thnaks for your input, Sammi Jo. I know you stay very busy. Please stay in touch and share your insights when you can.
