Joyce, everything you say is very realistic and I agree that anyone contemplating zebra ownership should have as many facts as possible- and as many points of view. Unfortunately, movies such as "Racing Stripes" give a false impression, making training look easy. As you know I have tried to do a survey and I did get quite a few responses. However, people who have had bad experiences or have given up on training probably are not looking at our message board and are out of the survey population. An unfortunate bias of results.
I would offer to anyone who is seriously contemplating this journey to contact me and I will give them my phone number and we can just talk. I'm not selling zebras and I think I can give them a factual account of how it really is. My zebra has been a real challenge and I don't expect that to change dramatically. It has been a very intense and unforgetable experience but not for the faint of heart. Would I do it over again? Yes, but that is how hardheaded I am. I'm not sure my husband would sign up for it again- but he has scars to reflect on. So if you are out there and want to know- just ask.
