Sue, you mentioned in a response below about the possibility of a genetic factor in the disposition of a zebra. It would be interesting to see that topic discussed here again.
The discussion was held some years ago as related to whether a zebra registry would be beneficial. I supported the idea that a registry would allow identificatiion and beneficial use of personality traits through selective breeding, and would facilitate avoidance of in-breeding. However, the discussion ended up being a hot topic on whether zorses and zedonks should be registered, because they have stripes. I strongly argued against that idea. Nobody registers mules as far as I know. Neither do we have Tennesseebians or Thoroughwalkers or Quarterclydes. Of course the reasons are that registries are used to track and refine specific traits through selective breeding. I think there is little doubt that different zebras have different traits and a registry could help to define, refine and track those traits in specific breeds. Are we likely to see significant progress towards that kind of tracking and breeding during our lifetimes? I doubt it.
