When it comes to weapon-based styles, the first thing that comes to my mind are stick/staff styles practiced in north-western China. Some years ago Kezi Gun taught within a small village community near Tianshui city in Gansu drew a lot of attention in MA circles in China. From what I saw they teach mainly exercises with partner and do some sparring. I've been thinking about visiting them, but there's never enough time...
Maybe you will be more lucky.
: I thought as much. I have looked
: into the Filipino martial arts
: already, but it is not really what I
: am looking for. I even did Kendo,
: but found the teachers and students
: to be lacking martial spirit. As for
: Wushu... I am not interested in
: martial dancing. Thanks anyways,
: though.

: It is difficult, if not impossible
: to
: find such teachers! You have to
: kowtow, eat dirt, eat crap and you
: may not seek what you are looking
: for!
: Please do not give up. An alternate
: is Kali, or Indonesian/Malaysian
: stick arts!
: You can register at a local Beijing
: univsrsity or extension for quanshu
: and jianshu (wushu bascially) and
: you may be in the position to be
: introduced to well known exponents.

: Since I have been in China (Over 2.5
: years) I have been scouring China
: for weapons-based arts and searching
: on Chinese search engines for this,
: but have turned up no results (For
: combat effective sword/spear/stick
: arts).
:
: I was hoping that some of you on
: here, perhaps being more
: experienced, could shed some light
: on this matter. I have been told by
: many Chinese martial arts teachers
: that weapons-based arts were lost
: after being banned when new China
: was created. Though I imagine this
: could be true, I nontheless refuse
: to give up hope so easily. I am most
: interested in stick (and/or staff)
: fighting. Thank you for your time.
