Posted by Andy By your same argument, then guys like Nino Schembri and Saulo Ribeiro, who are masters of grappling and BJJ, are completely helpless in an MMA fight. Look at their MMA records... Not very good in my opinion. It is not the system that is useless, it is the practitioner. Just because you study BJJ or Muay Thai doesn't mean you're going to be good. It's all what you put into it. The style is not what makes you good. It's your training methods and training partners... It's no use to argue about what style is better... People stopped doing that ages ago... We all know it's not the style, but the practitioner and his training methods. --Previous Message-- Link: Beijing Jiu-jitsu Academy

Kung Fu is a generic term for Chinese martial arts. It can mean any number of standup techinques, grappling techniques, and joint locking techinques.
: Hmmm.
:
: I submit an arguement that Kung Fu
: is ineffective in a real fight, as
: evidenced in the UFC.
:
: Further it is an archaic throw-back
: that markets itself on the credo
: that 'mystesism can prevail over
: brawn'
:
: And what does Andrew do to dispel
: this theory?
:
: He show me a link to a MMA site
: which has a clip of a fight why
: merely re-enforces my arguement!
:
: 90% of fights, irrespective of the
: combatants is either over in 3
: seconds or ends-up on the ground.
:
: Who would you have as a bouncer at a
: pub?
:
: Who is going to win a fight between?
:
: a.) A burly 6ft5 110kgs guy who
: knows a
: bit of boxing
:
: b.) A 5ft 8 inch 75kg guy who has
: studied Kung Fu for his entire adult
: life and is a 3rd Dan?
:
: We all know the answer.
:
: Get to the gym, build muscle, learn
: to box a bit, learn how to ground
: fight.
