: Emei Ci is definitively not a sword.
: It has a completely different blade,
: which I would compare to a mace
: rather than sword. The story says it
: is a spearhead, and the idea is to
: learn how to use it when your spear
: gets broken.
:
: Using a long sword instead of Emei
: Ci would give the practitioner
: completely different (wrong) feeling
: that has nothing to do with original
: idea of the weapon. So IMO no, you
: cannot use a sword instead of Emei
: Ci.

Hi Mauro and Jarek,
First, I really like the Dai VCD's. They remind me of the best of the Ba Gua I learned in China, particularly the single-movement practice. I learned a bit of some spear work from both Bagua and Baji folks, and can attest to the similarity of the material presented in the VCD and how I was taught to use a spear by 'choking-up' to use a bit of American slang, to get my hand near the business end of the weapon. I always thought of the Emei Ci as something akin to the Roman short swort, Persian Qama, or broad bladed Russian kindjial. I like to work with these shorter weapons and find them a nice fit. Windlass steelcrafts makes a decent Qama whose dimensions are pretty close. Anyway, have fun.
