Posted by Roger Weber Michigan Stadium is interesting - it is big. But Ohio Stadium is vastly louder and more exciting. Michigan Stadium incorporated a design that the Yale Bowl had already done better. Michigan Stadium was built with some amazing excavation, but in these times is horribly outdated as an athletic facility. Ohio Stadium, based on Roman architecture, is awe inspiring in the actual definition of that phrase. It is massive and its balance cannot be topped. Architects like myself realize that as a structure Ohio Stadium is really tough to top.

Ohio Stadium is significant for more reasons than you could ever guess. It was the first college football stadium with an upper deck. It was built in the Olentangy River flood plane and was thus the first football stadium to incorporate a slurry wall. It introduced double columns to cut down on the overall number of obstructed views. It was the first non-Ivy League stadium to be built of concrete...I could go on and on.
