The 2023 WWBA drafts will use the current rules. I want to discuss unifying them for the 2024 draft. I want to clarify that I want both leagues to have one set of rules I am not proposing that we combine drafts.
I've already stated that I am getting rid of the rules that the AL had that alternates pics every round for teams that tie. That's a logistical nightmare; gone.
From personal discussions I've had most seem to agree that the draft should simply be reverse winning percentage and most are opposed to the rule of the pennant winner automatically getting the last pick regardless of record. My biggest argument against this is that the playoffs are a crap shoot and if you get lucky enough to make it to the world series by beating a few teams you shouldn't have only to get swept in the World Series, picking last seems to be adding insult to injury. If anyone would like to argue against this thought process and really believes the pennant winner should get last pick fire away but I believe the majority are in agreement with reverse winning percentage.
The major talking point is the lottery. It is the biggest fundamental difference between the two leagues drafting procedures at the moment.
I am going to create a separate thread from this post to have discussion on and I will give some background info on the history of the lottery.
