Re: Brent & Heyward follow up
I've never been a collector of autographs but I do love to see guys that look like they enjoy interacting with fans because it makes me think they might appreciate how lucky they are to make millions of dollars playing a game most of us would pay to play. The greatest example I saw was Jose Lima. Late 90's whatever the last year in the Astrodome was I took a trip down to get one last game in before it was gone. After the Astros & Expos were done me and my buddy were walking back to the truck which happened to be behind the home team clubhouse exit. Several guys walked straight past the swarm of fans never looking up to avoid eye contact. A few guys stopped and signed a few but they could have done this all night, I understood they wanted to go home or get some dinner. Jose Lima stood there and cut up with fans, signed autographs, posed for pictures, longer than anyone there. I stood there and watched and he didn't stop until everyone that approached him received what they were after. As awesome as that was, his wife was standing about 5 feet behind him holding their extremely young baby girl in her arms. I never saw her say anything to him or shoot him a look like I know my wife would have within the first 30 minutes. If you ever saw an interview with him or watched him play, he was one of the most jovial individuals I ever saw on a baseball field. It was a very sad day for me the day I heard he passed away.
