Most of those big aluminum wrenches were for things like milk tanks, pipelines, etc. (Bulk storage & conveying of liquid foodstuffs).
The two issues were keeping the weight of the tool manageable, and something that could be washed without fretting about rust.
Cherry-Burrell has apparently merged (see http://www.gowcb.com/profile/ ).
