I remember, a long time, an article in either Select or Vox magazine, about 1993 or 1994, detailing some of Alans favourite creation stuff. One of these was a copy of Giant Steps. In an interview he stated that he'd told them that, while he felt that the record was good, he thought it wouldn't be the one to break them. This interview was alan basically eating, an admittedly small piece, humble pie, as he went on to state that the record subsequently sold, at that point, 60,000 copies in the U.K. He also did eventually allow them to release the album with sixteen tracks as oppossed to the twelve that he wanted - even if it was after much argueing.
From a personnal point of view, I don't think he disliked them - let's ignore any discussion about personalities and stick to the idea of them as purely a band on his label, I think it may have simply been a matter of not understanding them. Discuss?
As far as I know, Giant steps, still sells quite well - especially to students. You can't get it for love nor money in our local HMV - and it's not for want of them stocking it. Which is positive!!! :)

: Funny you should mention the 'Creation
: Records Book', as I have recently
: borrowed it from the library.
: I skipped to the 'Boos bits, and there
: isn't an awful lot I didn't know'.
: Alan McGhee, didn't particularly like
: the 'Boo Radleys' much though.
: Also, Carr wanted ot release 'The
: Future Is Now' as an A-Side, and
: MacGhee said it wasn't even a
: C-Side!!! :-(
: I can't say it's one of my favourite
: 'Boos tracks, but still. :-(((
