Posted by Sean on 4/13/2005, 1:00 pm, in reply to "opening weekend (turkey)" Just about anywhere and I don't mean that to be silly or send you on a wild goose chase -- I am dead serious. If you know an area than it is the best spot, because by now they have busted up and we have birds in every area -- seriously you will agree with me Saturday. I hunt along dry creek below the clubhouse cause I know it well and that is why (near where Dave Wilkerson hunts), but I've never went anywhere on the club where I could not find a gobbling bird. Our birds don't gobble much going to roost so don't be discouraged Thursday evening because you will hear more gobblers than you know how to chase Friday morning. Also, don't run after the first bird to gobble -- give them a minute and one will probably be closer. My first year and first morning I hunted the club 5 or 6 years ago and ran around like a chicken with my head cut off because there were so many birds gobbling (I should have killed a bird but I keep moving). Commit yourself to one bird, call sparingly -- they will gobble at about anything you throw at them, but they are tough birds to call all the way in. I'm sounding like a "know-it-all" but I've killed gobblers out there every year and I have been kind of lucky, cause I am NOT a pro. You may be an awesome turkey hunter, but these birds are a little different and I've hunted them in 6 different states and these are the most fun birds you'll ever hunt, but almost the hardest too. Nothing like a bird that gobbles a lot, but won't finish -- you'll see what I am saying eventually, but maybe you'll get one right off the bat and think this is hogwash Dave, I saw the picture of your deer -- where you the guy that had the stand across from me opening day of deer season? If so, you know the dog leg some and there are quite a few birds around that back food plot (logging yard). They got a monster gobbler on video back there last year that gave one of those hunting TV show crews fits. Looks like I wrote a book, but when I get going on turkeys I can’t seem to stop. Good luck to the new guys – you are in for a treat. Sean

Doug,
. To be honest, I don't want to tell you an area -- I know there are areas with more birds than mine, but with less members and if I were new I would just go with an area I know well or maybe head to the middle of the club and you will have a lot of room to maneuver -- they are every where.
